Christmas in the Caribbean

200240102-002.jpgPeople in colder climes are always curious about what the holiday season is like in the islands. Apart from a distinctive lack of cold weather, it’s pretty much the same as elsewhere in the world. Christmas is an important holiday that brings together families that may be separated during the year – either because they live on separate islands within TCI or overseas. In fact, the main island of Providenciales, which is a relative ‘new’ island, sees a fairly steady stream of departures to places like North Caicos, South Caicos, Salt Cay and Grand Turk as residents of Provo return to the family roots for the holidays.Families get together for parties, meals and to go to church. And, being a UK territory, we also celebrate Boxing Day here (December 26) extending the holiday a little longer.

So our version of a white Christmas might be to go to the beach on Christmas Day and enjoy the fine powdery sands that make our beaches so unique here in TCI. Sound appealing? Plan a visit to see us next Christmas. All the resorts and restaurants are open and get into the spirit and it’s actually a fun time to be here in the islands.
