TCI REPRESENTED AT 2007 CARIBBEAN WEEK IN NEW YORK
(GRAND TURK: JUNE 19 2007) The Turks and Caicos Islands was once again well represented at this year’s Caribbean Week in New York held from June 9 – 17.
Caribbean Week aims to provide a platform for the sale of the Caribbean region as the ultimate vacation destination and also attempts to attract and generate positive media attention for the region.
The Turks and Caicos delegation headed by Tourism Director Lindsay Musgrove also included Deputy Director of Tourism Ralph Higgs. Marketing Executives Donna Nealy & Daphne Farrington, Assistant Information Officer Savitri Daniel and from the Department of Environment & Coastal Resources Wesley Clerveaux, Director and Dwayne Cox, Fisheries Officer.
Also making their first appearance at Caribbean Week in New York was the Turks and Caicos Conch Festival Committee headed by its President Mike Sottak. Their presence in New York was mainly to promote the 2007 Festival scheduled for November 22-24 in Providenciales.
On Tuesday June 11, the Turks and Caicos Islands displayed both welcomed hundreds of potential visitors at its booth at the Caribbean fair held at the South Street Seaport. Visitors to the TCI booth were treated to “Salt Cay Candies”, Fudge and brochures and literature on the islands.
The Fair also featured two ‘live’ Caribbean Weddings, sponsored by the Condé Nast Bridal Media.
This year’s entertainment line-up also included “The Mighty Sparrow” & Dollarman, both of Grenada.
The TCI delegation also had a strong presence at the Caribbean Media Marketplace held on Wednesday June 13 at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square.
This event provides Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) member Governments, the Caribbean Hotel Association and private sector exhibitors the opportunity to interact with writers from the trade and consumer press.
Tourism officials from the TCI and Tourist Board’s New York Office welcomed representatives of both the print and electronic media who were all eager to know what’s new and different in the Turks & Caicos Islands for 2000.
Meanwhile during the media marketplace TCI’s very own conchman Bernie “Boogaloo” Williams participated in the preparation of dishes served during the cocktail hour of the Caribbean Media Marketplace.
The week of activities came to an end on Friday June 15 with the Governments of the Caribbean State Ball at the Waldorf Astoria.
Caribbean Week is a joint venture between the Caribbean tourism Organization and the Caribbean Hotel Association, which was started in 1973.
