| The Turks and Caicos Tourist Board extends an invitation to all primary schools in Providenciales to participate in its Annual Tourism Awareness Week Float and Motorcade, to be held on Monday October 8th, 2007.
Floats will be judged in three categories; Originality, Relevance of theme and Banner and prizes range from $300 for 3rd place, $500 for 2nd place and $700 for 1st place.
“Tourism Awareness Week is our chance to observe our accomplishments made within the tourism sector and while this event is for everyone, this year we want to give the young people a chance to display their creativity through a float and banner competition.” said Lindsey Musgrove, Director of Tourism.
This years’ Tourism Awareness Week, is celebrated under the theme “Achieving service excellence through industry training”, the week was first observed 18 years ago, as a means to promote the culture of the islands, raise awareness about the importance of tourism, and encourage appreciation of the people and communities who drive the industry.
The Tourist Board hopes to build on these goals, as plans are being made to host a number of activities throughout the islands including, Church Services at surrounding Methodist churches Sunday October 7th, Opening Ceremony and Motorcade in Providenciales Monday
October 8, High School Speech Competition in Grand Turk Tuesday
October 9th, School visits Wednesday October 10th, Tourism Awareness Conference Thursday October 11, Career Day and Quiz Competition Friday October 12th and culminates with a Cultural Day in Grand Turk, Saturday October 13th.
