The "In My View" competition invites Caribbean students aged 12-17 to submit photos that they believe capture the best attributes of their country. The images should represent a variety of elements in Caribbean culture -- the people, food, landscapes or local events that best describe the spirit of the community. Submissions will be accepted from now until Dec. 21, 2007, and each student may enter up to five images. Students can pick up entry forms at their local school. The grand-prize winner will receive a four-day, three-night trip for two (child and parent or guardian) to Washington, D.C., which will include a visit to National Geographic Society headquarters and a tour of the city with a National Geographic photographer, plus a 35 mm digital camera. In addition, the winning student's photographs will be published in National Geographic Traveler's July/August 2008 issue. The second-place winner will receive the Ultimate Photography Package of a digital camera and camera carrying case as well as three National Geographic photography books. The third-place winner will receive 10 National Geographic photography books. A photo exhibit of some of the finalists' work will be on display at select travel shows. "The Turks and Caicos Tourist Board is please and honored to be a part of this contest, especially knowing that the youth is involved. This is true sustainable tourism development in action, as the future generation captures their perspective of culture and heritage on film for the world to see," said Brian Been, Senior Product Development Officer for the Turks and Caicos Tourist Board.
"We are very excited about this new opportunity for the children of the Caribbean to participate in this competition and possibly have their creativity recognized internationally. A chance to learn from a National Geographic professional photographer is itself a life-changing experience for a young enthusiast," said Hugh Riley, Caribbean Tourism Organization director of marketing for the Americas. Participating countries include Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Bonaire, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Curacao, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Martinique, Montserrat, Nevis, Puerto Rico, St. Eustatius, St. Barts, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, St. Martin, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, Turks & Caicos and U.S. Virgin Islands. |
