TURKS & CAICOS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES DATES AND CALLS FOR SUBMISSIONS
4 April 2008
Deadline for Narrative & Documentary Feature Film Entries is August 1st
New York, NY, April 4, 2008 – Film Life, Inc., announced the 2008 dates of the 4th Annual Turks & Caicos International Film Festival (TCIFF). The festival will be held Wednesday, October 15, through Sunday, October 19, 2008, on Providenciales, one of the Turks & Caicos Islands, located in the Caribbean. A world-class industry retreat, the TCIFFs mission is to celebrate and reflect cultural diversity through cinema, and honor and recognize filmmakers who use their art to celebrate humanity while educating, entertaining and enriching audiences around the world.

Sponsored by the Turks and Caicos Board of Tourism and produced by Film Life, Inc., the festival will recognize and reward the best in international independent cinema. “Unlike many of the other major international festivals that function as high-pressure buyers’ markets, the TCIFF will offer a relaxed, creatively charged atmosphere ideal for networking and industry deal making. Additionally, we intend to prove that good movies are universal and can be a vehicle to foster cultural awareness,” said Jeff Friday, CEO of Film Life and producer of the TCIFF.

“In addition to promoting the cultural and artistic mission of the festival, we are looking to stimulate film production in the Turks and Caicos, a spectacular island group comprised of over 40 islands and cays,” said the Honorable Wayne Garland, Executive Chairman for the Turks and Caicos Tourist Board. “Our island has evolved in recent years into a world-class destination and a favorite of celebrities and the jet-set crowd. We are confident a partnership with Film Life will help us to continue in that tradition,” he added.

The TCIFF will kick off its four days of activities with a Welcome Reception, followed by a major studio premiere on the beach. The festival will also feature “Turks Unplugged”, an acoustic or “unplugged” concert performance by a leading musician, and “A Conversation with…,” an event similar in structure to the acclaimed Inside the Actors Studio, as well as exclusive parties.

The festival will close with the TCIFF Awards Gala, where the Best Narrative Feature and the Best Documentary will each receive the Premier’s Trophy and $30,000 in cash prizes. Additionally, the festival will present the TCIFF Visionary Award to a filmmaker whose career and achievement in cinema has spanned more than two decades, and who has used his/her celebrity to promote international humanitarian causes. The TCIFF will also present the Young Turks Award to an actor who has distinguished himself or herself through groundbreaking and critically acclaimed work over the past five years.

Passes for the 4th Annual Turks & Caicos International Film Festival will be available online beginning May 1, 2008.  The TCIFF Festival Pass, priced at $700 USD grants the holder admittance to the daily film screenings, opening night activities, “A Conversation with…” and the TCIFF Awards Gala. The TCIFF Ambassador Pass, priced at $2,500 grants the holder admittance to all public and private events including the VIP Ambassador (Gifting) Suites, as well as preferred seating at all events.
